MILIA REMOVAL

Milia, also known as Milium Cysts or Milk Spots, are small white bumps that appear on the skin. They're usually grouped together on the nose, cheeks, and chin, though they may appear elsewhere.
They develop when skin flakes become trapped under the surface of the skin, or when keratin builds up and gets trapped.
Milia occur most often in newborn babies. In fact, 40 to 50 percent of newborn babies have Milia on their skin within a month of being born, but Milia can also affect children, adolescents, and adults.
Adults can develop Milia on the face, including very delicate areas like the eyelids. Milia can even form on the arms or hands, especially in older patients with severely sun-damaged skin or those with certain acquired or genetic skin conditions associated with blistering.
These small, pesky bumps are infinitely more difficult to remove than whiteheads or other acne bumps and should never be squeezed in an attempt to remove them.
If you have recurring Milia outbreaks, or if your Milia don’t go away, you may need treatment.
DOES MILIA REMOVAL HURT?
The treatment relatively painless and rarely requires any local anaesthetic. However, if the Milia is large or you are concerned, a numbing cream can be applied before treatment. After treatment the skin left behind may be tender for a few days and will need to be covered. It is also best to use a strong sunscreen on the area.
IS MILIA REMOVAL SAFE?
Milia removal is completely safe and is only carried out by a qualified Aesthetician in a clinical environment. We work to strict protocols exceeding all regulatory and clinical requirements.
WHERE ON MY BODY CAN I HAVE TREATMENT?
You can have Milia removed from anywhere on your body.
CAN I HAVE MY MILIA REMOVED JUST BECAUSE I DON’T LIKE THE LOOK OF IT?
Unless your doctor feels there is a medical reason not to remove your Milia, we are happy to remove your Milia for cosmetic reasons. We remove Milia for a lot of clients who cannot receive the treatment on the NHS.
WHAT RESULTS WILL I SEE?
The treatment will completely remove your Milia; however tit may take several days to a few weeks for the area to heal completely.
WILL THE MILIA COME BACK?
The treatment will permanently remove the Milia. However, this will not stop Milia from reoccurring in other areas in the future.
WHAT ARE MILIA?
Milia is the medical term for small, keratin-filled cysts that can be seen in all age groups. These cysts can be solitary (milium) or appear in clusters (milia). They are most commonly seen in infants as tiny, firm, whitish bumps on the cheeks or around the nose and eyes. Nearly half of all infants develop them. Adults can develop milia on the face as well, including very delicate areas like the eyelids. Milia can even form on the arms or hands.
HOW DO YOU GET MILIA?
Milia form as a consequence of the skin’s localised inability to naturally exfoliate. Dead skin cells, composed predominantly of keratin, a protein also found in hair and nails, build up underneath, causing a bump to form. Unlike acne, milia are cysts, do not form from a pore and typically do not get inflamed or develop redness or swelling.
HOW WILL I FEEL DURING MILIA REMOVAL?
The treatment may cause very slight discomfort, but is usually very mild.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER MILIA REMOVAL?
The area will heal over the course of a few days or weeks. You can help to prevent Milia with regular home exfoliation and the application of sunscreen.
